[JEAN RIÈRE & FERNAND CADÈNE]
We like the idea that a person’s character can influence the wine they grow, and that it ends up resembling them. Perhaps significantly, “character” comes from the Greek kharakter, meaning a stamping tool.
Jean Rière and Fernand Cadène, Jean-Francois’ father and grandfather, inspired us with characterful wines made in their own image.
JEAN RIÈRE
Playfully seductive, fine and elegant. A true thoroughbred.
This wine is full of personality and makes a big impact. The Syrah adds spicy notes of licorice and Penja and Kampot peppers, evolving into hints of violets and leather. Our old plot of Grenache is redolent with black fruit and the fragrance of the garrigue.
AOP Côtes du Roussillon
Grapes : Grenache and Syrah
Soil : Têt valley, rounded granite and quartz pebbles
How we make it : Grapes are grown on carefully selected plots, handpicked when the phenols reach optimum maturity, destemmed, and cold macerated for 72 hours prior to three weeks of vat fermentation. The free-run juice is poured off. The wine is aged for twelve months in the barrel, and then in the bottle.
FERNAND CADÈNE
A jovially affable and authentic bon-vivant that’s totally authentic.
The sophistication of fully ripe Grenache, and the suppleness of Syrah given plenty of time in the cellar. Careful use of oak barrels brings out the fruit’s sublime balance.
